Kukkiwon
In accordance with the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) rules, players wishing to enter WTF sanctioned events are required to be holders of Kukkiwon Dan/Poom Certificates.
Kukkiwon Certificate Fees
The schedule of fees for the supply of Kukkiwon (KKW) Certificates is available to 4th Dan (and above) Instructors. To obtain a copy of the current rates please email the following details from your Kukkiwon Dan certificate to STA at info@sta.asn.au and STA will provide them to you by return email.
- Nationality
- Name (full name - as it appears on your KKW certificate)
- Date of Birth (eg 16 May 1965)
- Contact phone number
Payment for Kukkiwon Certificates should be by Money Order to “TKD – Sports Taekwondo Australia Ltd.”
Kukkiwon Certificate Application Process
- STA will accept applications for Kukkiwon (KKW) certificates from Instructors that hold 4th Dan Kukkiwon certification and who’s clubs are affiliated with STA. Application forms for Affiliate Membership of STA are available on the STA website at www.sta.asn.au
- Instructors may apply for KKW Certificates to one level below their own KKW Certified rank.
- Kukkiwon applications are to be lodged on these two forms please print clearly:

Kukkiwon Application For Promotional Test form is located at the bottom of this page. Please note date of birth should be in the following format "21 July 1988".
- Separate forms are required for each KKW certificate applied for.
- Two passport photos (with name on the back) are required - one to be attached to each of the two forms where indicated.
- For KKW certificates 2nd Dan/Poom or above a copy of the current KKW Certificate must be enclosed.
- Applications for 6th & 7th Dan must include an attached essay (10 typed single spaced pages) on any subject relating to Taekwondo (stating the writers name, date of essay and subject title).
- Payment for Kukkiwon Certificates should be by Money Order to “TKD – Sports Taekwondo Australia Inc.” and mailed to:

Kukkiwon Regulations

Poom Certificates
- Poom certificates can only be issued from 1st Poom
- 2nd Poom certificate can only be issued to the holder of a 1st Poom certificate after the minimum time set by the KKW has past.
- The KKW will not issue multiple Poom certificates.
Dan Certificates
- If applying for a KKW Dan certificate and your student has not been issued the previous KKW certificate, you are required to complete the Kukkiwon Application For Promotion Test form.
Additionally you are required to provide a written statement explaining why your student did not apply for the previous KKW Certificate and a copy of the Black Belt certificate that was issued to them. Your student will be required to pay the KKW the fee for the previous certificate and the certificate being applied for. The KKW will only issue the higher Dan certificate. The KKW will not backdate certificates.
- The Kukkiwon will not issue a certificate for a student requiring a 3rd Dan certificate or higher who has no previous certificate.
- Masters requiring promotion to 8th and 9th Dan need to be recommended by Sports Taekwondo Australia and travel to Korea and be graded by the Kukkiwon.
